Executive Board Bios

Angela Vawter, President

I am pleased to be serving as PTA President this school year. Previously, I did two terms as VP-Communications and this is my fourth year as a parent at Mt. Washington Elementary. My son Henry is a third grader now. My husband and I have future wolf 4 yr. old Josephine. I just love our school and consider myself very lucky to be able to volunteer in this capacity. I really enjoy all of our programs and school community events, but my favorites include working with the kids on Loose Parts Play on the kinder yard, volunteering in Henry’s classroom, and working at the Winter Book Fair. The absolute best part for me is being with the kids and getting to know them and their families. It’s a dream to work alongside our dedicated Board, Committees, Mrs. Gravino, the teachers and great parents towards the best of common goals for our kids. I'll do my very best to represent, serve and support all MWE families this year. I encourage everyone to engage in school as best you can even though we’re not on campus. When we chase opportunities and tackle challenges head on, we grow stronger as a community and a school.

Cara Gillis, Communications Chair

Hello Mount Washington community (and other people on the internet reading this). As the Communications Chair I hope to ensure clear, transparent, effective, and succinct communication. QED.

SONAL KHEMANI, Programs Chair

Hello Mt. Washington Community. My hope is to help provide quality enrichment to all of our students. We have such a wonderful school community and are fortunate to be able to provide a variety of programming. In my off time, I love to hike, run (more accurately huff and puff my way up and down these hills) and also volunteer as a garden parent at the school.

DAWN DUNBAR, Fundraising Chair

My name is Dawn and I am the mother to Shea, a wonderful and wild boy in the 6th grade. Although I have absolutely no experience in fundraising, I love a good party! That, and the fact that I am willing to do it, are really the only qualifications I have for the Fundraising Chair position. My goal this year, besides the obvious point of raising money for our school, is to have super fun events. I believe the children are our future, that goofy socks bring me good luck and that my level of feeling like a part of this community is directly related to the level of my participation. So come and volunteer at our events, I promise not to silently judge you!

MICHELLE Z., Volunteers Chair

I am the proud mama of Jax, the sweetest little human being who will be in 2nd grade this year. This will be our third year at Mt. Washington, and I am honored to be a part of the PTA Board for a second term. Our first year here I was lucky enough to be a Room Rep, Class Photographer and Garden Rep. Getting to know the kids, teachers, and parents has made our time at Mt. Washington extra special. We love being a part of this community. And there are so many fun ways to be involved in the school. As Volunteers Chair I hope to be able to connect parents with wonderful opportunities that will help make their school year amazing and memorable.

BRANDI MILES MOORE, Historian

I've lived in Mount Washington since 1994 and am the proud parent of Emmet, who is a 6th grader. This is my seventh year on the MWPTA board, having served as Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and now Historian. I love the community of our school and how much the teachers, staff and families genuinely care about our children and each other. I look forward to making each year better for our school than the last.  Even in this stressful time, I want to savor this year – our last at MWE.

JUNE YANG, Treasurer

Los Angeles has always been my favorite place, and in Mount Washington we have found an enclave unlike any other in this already magnificent city. The heart of this community is something we can really be proud of, and my family and I couldn't be more thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute. By day, I work as a tax attorney/CPA, but by night, I get to go home to my Batman-obsessed first grader named Wyatt who is the love of our lives.
