Parent Workshop: Dr. Lori Watson - Part 4
All of our school families are invited to attend our next series of Parent Workshops. We are partnering with Dr. Lori Watson, founder of Race-Work. She is a former teacher and administrator from Northern California. Dr. Watson has worked in bringing about racial consciousness for over 20 years, first as a facilitator with Courageous Conversation and now with Race-Work. Her work with us will be a series of six parent workshops. Please see below for dates and topics, all meetings will start at 6:00pm.
Wednesday, March 24: LANGUAGE/”TOOLS”/PARAMETERS — How to talk about race. Providing participants an introduction into some foundational approaches to conversations about race. A sort of setting the stage for the ongoing work.
Wednesday, April 14: MYSELF…MY STORY — Racial narratives and personalizing race. Participants will engage in a personal reflection about how race has impacted and continues to impact their lives.
Wednesday, April 28: BELIEFS/CONSCIOUSNESS — Conditioning. How do racial narratives get constructed and what role does consciousness play in disrupting those false narratives and how to seek out counter-narratives.
Wednesday, May 12: WHITENESS — Defining aspects of whiteness. What is whiteness—white privilege—white fragility—white consciousness, etc.
Tuesday, May 25: CHILDREN & RACE — Resources for talking to children about race. Taking responsibility for raising racially conscious white children.
Tuesday, June 8: CO-CONSPIRATORSHIP — Taking action.
