Ever wonder what exactly is Common Core? We have! Since Common Core is relatively new, and in many ways, very different from previous standards, we decided to compile a list of resources that may help parents help their kids study and learn.

Common Core State Standards

California Common Core Standard
The California Department of Education website is a treasure trove of information and links to even more information about the Common Core. All informed searches should begin here.



Beginning the 2018-2019 school year, LAUSD will fully implement the Next Generation Science Standard. Here are some links to introduce parents to the new curriculum framework.

The Next Generation Science Standards
The NGSS developed the standard and curriculum for k-12 science education. The entire standard and development can be found on this website.

Los Angeles Unified School District Science
The LAUSD website provides thorough details on the implementation plan including timeline. You can also find specific grade-level FOSS support materials.

California Science Standards
The California Dept of Education adopted the NGSS in 2013. This is a great resource with many helpful links.

Full Option Science System (FOSS)
FOSS, by Delta Education, is an approach to teaching science developed at UC Berkeley. LAUSD has implemented NGSS using the FOSS curriculum. You can find teaching tools and materials that MWE purchases for science instruction.
