Programs and Events
MWPTA hosts a wide range of fun, community-building events for students and their families throughout the year. We also offer affordable after-school programs to enrich your child’s academic, creative and social experience, and provide many different ways for parents to participate in school life. And, we encourage you to volunteer! Opportunities abound in the classroom, front office, and at our events.
FUN and FREE
Join the MWPTA throughout the year for engaging activities designed to stimulate our students' curiosities, provide social-emotional opportunities, and support parents and families with expert presentations and workshops.
For our annual Stargazing event, the MWPTA partners with astronomer volunteers from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society to answer questions and help even the littlest budding astronomer among us get a look at some sparkling celestial bodies.
Family Movie Night is a blast for the whole family! Wear your pjs, bring a blanket, and munch on the goodies available at the MWPTA concession stand!
Though it is hard to imagine, all our students will eventually go on to Middle School. MWPTA hosts an annual Middle School Fair with resources and information to support our families through the daunting transition.
For our kids to be successful in academics and in life, we must understand the importance of their social-emotional needs. This will be our first year offering Parent Connection Meetings with the goal of raising awareness around social-emotional topics, sharing perspectives, and connecting with other parents.
The MWPTA also invites speakers to offer their insight on a variety of relevant topics. These meetings typically occur following the bi-monthly PTA General Association meetings. Refer to the weekly eHowl for information.
AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES
MWPTA provides a variety of after-school options to enhance your child’s education and keep them active and engaged.
Professional after-school enrichment provider, Parker-Anderson, brings a staff of highly trained instructors and intellectually stimulating classes to students in a fun and exciting way! Classes offered through Parker-Anderson are coordinated by MWPTA but registration and payment is through their website. You can learn more about Parker-Anderson at www.parker-anderson.org
Community member-led classes are also available for our students. We have an incredibly talented neighborhood and many parents and friends are eager to share their knowledge and skills with MWE kids. A few of the current options include Knitting, Cooking, Spanish, Power Hour, Robotics Team and Dance. Each instructor provides their own registration and payment instructions.
Visit After School Enrichment Classes for the latest schedule.
ARTS COLLECTIVE AFTER SCHOOL (ACAS)
Once a month, an arts-focused, maker-centric community partner engages our students in an innovative and exploratory project. ACAS hosts individuals and groups on campus with emphases in engineering and the arts. These projects provide an explorative and experimental approach to making and creating where the outcome is not predetermined. Final projects are often displayed in the school further beautifying our campus.
National PTA’s Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life. Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response a student-selected theme. The theme changes every year. Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts.
